Gianduiotto

CHOCOLATE

Gianduiotto

Turin's most famous chocolate — a blend of roasted hazelnuts and fine chocolate, wrapped in gold foil. Invented here in 1865.

About

The gianduiotto is Turin's greatest gift to the world of chocolate. Invented in 1865 by the chocolatier Caffarel, it is a small, boat-shaped chocolate made from a blend of roasted Piemontese hazelnuts (Tonda Gentile) and fine cocoa — the same combination that would later inspire Nutella.

The hazelnut content (at least 30%) gives the gianduiotto its characteristic smooth, nutty flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture. It is always wrapped individually in gold or silver foil and is the symbol of Turin's chocolate tradition.
